Autumn chills

It's been a long summer. Lots of good stuff, mind. We've had a lovely stream of guests staying for weddings and parties, visiting friends and family, all enjoying our beautiful county! We too have had a lovely holiday in Corfu - I know, not setting a good example, but even idyllic South Norfolk struggles to come up with sun-soaked swimming and mouth-watering moussaka every day for a week. We've had barbeques, seen friends, been to parties, the children have been at home for the long university holidays. All good. But. Aren't you glad it's over? The first of October coincided with the first dry, chilly day and we turned the Aga back on after a three-month break. I've gathered in logs to be drying ready for the first fire, and the chickens are in to bed by 7pm, none of this pottering off after the 10 o'clock news. I welcome shorter days, am ready to cosy up now and think about the possibility of a better television schedule ... possibly.

And you, maybe you're planning a long weekend of leafy walks in the country, lazy pub lunches, a spot of shopping in our buzzing towns. Here's a selection of what's on around here in October:

Apple Day at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse

Halloween Horrors at Holkham Hall

Be spooky!
